I read a fair amount of fic. I find it comes in a lot of flavors - character studies, porn without plot (and porn with plot), plot driven stories, romances, and AUs among others. I think there are great stories to be found in all those genres, but a complete rewrite of canon is something that is rarely pulled off imo ( Read more... )

I have never understand the insane hatred the Buffy fandom has for Riley Finn, considering he was a stand-up guy. (I also have a very different of his failings and his view of Buffy than most people, so maybe I'll do a meta post on that in the future.) My normal response to Buffy/Giles stories is to shudder and then keep on going. I never saw any hint of romance between these two on the show. What I saw was a student/teacher developing into a deeper daughter/father vibe and then, in season 7, Buffy finally deciding that she no longer needed or wanted Giles' advice ( Read more... )
